I-33: Pharmacogenetics of Reproductive Medicine

Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are a major problem in drug therapy and drug development. Inter-individual genetic differences can have significant roles in determining an individual’s susceptibility to ADRs. The rapid development of techniques in the area of genome analysis has put the scientific community in a power position and facilitated identification of new pharmacogenomic biomarkers that ...

Addressing the challenges of the clinical application of pharmacogenetic testing.

Pharmacogenomics aims to use molecular genetic markers to predict treatment outcome. Indeed, within the past decade there has been a rapid emergence of pharmacogenetic tests to aid clinicians in predicting efficacy or toxicity for some drugs. Despite this major advance in therapeutic drug management, there remain challenges to the appropriate use of pharmacogenetic tests. We discuss UGT1A1 phar...

Pharmacogenomic approach in type 2 diabetes treatment

Introduction: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is chronic health caused by the interaction between genetic and environmental factors that results in high blood glucose. The evidence-based guidelines for diabetes management are mainly based on lifestyle changes, control of risk factors, and the management of blood glucose levels. Although numerous antidiabetic agents have been developed over time, T2D trea...

Pharmacogenomics: Current State-of-the-Art

The completion of the human genome project 10 years ago was met with great optimism for improving drug therapy through personalized medicine approaches, with the anticipation that an era of genotype-guided patient prescribing was imminent. To some extent this has come to pass and a number of key pharmacogenomics markers of inter-individual drug response, for both safety and efficacy, have been ...
